One of my Thrifting expeditions recently I came across a military style shirt dress. It was a good quality brand (Talbot,) a beautiful silk super shabby. It seemed almost unworn. The hidden clasp at the waist (a nice feature in a shirt dress mine gape it!) family house and I was hope that is not why it was donated (although I wouldn't be surprised to sew, based on the number of requests from friends and family for me buttons be.) Here is the before shot:
As you, not so cute to see. This is actually a size 10 petite. I last, I wear a 6 in Talbot and 2 sizes is no bad change. And petite is always better because the shoulders on a petite are tend to be narrow. My inspiration was this dress from Anthro this fall:
I reduced the dress of 4 inches (actually too much...) (I'd take a really small hem!) I reduced the sleeves and took 2 inch width of each side of the sleeve to the waist. The rock part originally had a slot, the I-sewn. Changed that hang from the rock enough, I needed to customize it. The waist is elastic and it's meant with a belt worn so I set the waist at all. It was made by the fact that the rock was lined a little more complicated. I wanted to look nice, so I removed carefully all the seams and made a nice, neat new hem in both. The results?
I'm from, how it came to really happy with - it is very much in vogue, and you'd never guess that there is a $2.50 thrift store was purchase! I think I have close to my inspiration. The only differences are the sleeves (I wanted shorter sleeves, and although I made I ended up a tab rather shorter, lined sleeves) and the belt - I dislike fabric bindings, and prefer a beautiful, elastic elastic belt. This project ended costs about $5 (I had to buy matching thread!) and took me to complete a night.
Here is how it actually wear today (it's a cold!)
