Report on the missing Mojo

My knitting Mojo is a while for gone was. Leave it all at once. No, it slipped away bit by bit. Initially I noticed much. Perhaps the sweater projects but I was slowed down still knit socks.

And then the socks which also slows down. At this point the Mojo missing could no longer be ignored. And in this State I have for many a month. The fiber rooms only necessarily deleted neglected, dusty and dark saßen.Halbfertigen projects.

This weekend I went festgelegt.Zugegeben in fiber rooms and about it properly, this has nothing with the return of knitting Mojo--do we are short on my oldest host (as this girl knew me and liked when I was fifteen) each square inches of space need friends and their large family for a few days, and I deal with.

Ticking along

, anyway. Last week I taught my how-to last class of the summer at Passionknit in Toronto, planned, and we some Steeks damn good (photos above) cut. I am moving along on various design projects for Tanis fiber arts, Indigodragonfly, the sweet sheep as well as some ideas for me and happy offered were a teaching contract for the year (in central Ontario, which also means a temporary move for me). I'm still with my running and training for a half marathon (end of September, fingers crossed) and knit away in bits and pieces.

Last week I had the chance to the Stratford (Ontario) Theatre-Festival, with one online pal head that came through the city to visit. We saw plays a little shopping, and has made the fantastic discovery of the chocolate trail which basically pay for an up-to 8-stops pass various chocolate-serving establishments in the city is. It was fantastic.Chocolate, more chocolate and then we had chocolate Martinis.Ich regret nothing.

Some thoughts on underwear

Six years later, I can tell you guys I rarely (if ever) worn by this tank despite his cuteness. Why, questions you? Because I never the puzzle of what bra wear underneath it solved.

I tried a strapless bra but this was never easy. Who wants to wearing a tight ACE bandage in the heat under an acrylic tank sweater? Answer: not me. I tried sewing in little support for the bra straps at the shoulders. Unfortunately was the the back bra strap problem not fixed.Myself not to feel bra-less because Nipplage.Ich gave up, and the tank was banished reached the sweater drawer to the dark.

This summer, however, sparked on the advice of my hairdresser (who apparently knows everything about everything) I finally the BRA dilemma. I went to my local Wal-Mart (I know!) and bought a lingerie solutions Shantina Lite adhesive bra. I would link one to it, but I can't one that works find. Anyway, it is a silicone rubber within these two light foam cups that to connect in the front like a regular front close bra.Pulling off the wax paper, glue ' 'em on and the front Haken.Getan.Then when you are finished wear it, you 'cut 'em, wash' em, let dry and you magically are sticky again for next time.

There is a similar product at target with a different name but also by lingerie solutions. Moreover, if one wants to further Division, there are similar products, which strengthen the veranda, but are a bit harder to bear.

So, although I coon's age not knit nothing new for me in a still older items could pull out and makes me work for keeping a bit until my knitting Mojo comes back.

The 3 stitch project, as Leslie says

I walked into the yarn shop hoping to find friends Karen and Les and there they were. Karen and Les get me. The know my colors, they know what my knit mind likes and I come away certain. Certain I want to hit the needles and knit. Confident.

A few mintues of catch up, the kind you can do with people who really get you, and they had my next fingerless project ready.
As Les said, "It's a 3 stitch project, 3 stitches and you are done!" Not really, but suffice to say I knit a whole fingerless last night.
And I love it. You'll see it Monday or so when I come back to life after the weekend shifts.

Do you have a 3 stitch project that is fast, lovely and gives you near instant gratification?

Happy Weekend

Fast and furious fingerless

Fingerless with after dinner decaf. Cast on 32 stitches on size 7 needles. Knit around and around and put a 8 stitch buttonhole where you wish the thumb to be able to come out. When they are long enough bind off. I've been trying to think of the name of the yarn for the last 1/2 hour. I knit a baby sweater in this same yarn once. It isn't rhapsody or symphony...........no, I can't find the tag or the receipt. The minute I remember I'll post it in the comments. Wait wait it is JASPER! I realize the name is NOTHING like what I was driving at a few sentences ago.

I think I love this pair. Sturdy and short and sweet and simple.

Tomorrow night. Dog class number 2........
but no pressure....

Capable of learning complex things.....

Has this blog ever given you the impression that I am capable of learning complex knit things? About the most complex this knitter gets is fair isle. Right now, life has other complexities for me! So my knitting will remain in my comfort zone.....(or zzzzzzzz for some of you!) I am casting on for a new project tonight. It is very straighforward, and I am making a prototype.
The last time I did this, I knit a sweater in "cheap" yarn and it is the thing people love the most when I wear it. (Top down raglan
cardi) Hoping I'm two for two.

We have had a couple of training breakthroughs with Mr. Cricket this week. Our very smart trainer (because it is so very much
me who needs the training!) solved a mouthy problem in a word "Listerine" I now rinse my hands in Listerine when he gets mouthy. He only needed one taste to keep his sweet little mouth closed. I also wipe it on the leash so the tug games have ended.

So here in Listerineland Cricket is fulfilling the trainers words to me at class, "Cricket is smart. He is capable of learning complex commands." Here he is after he figured out how to get 3 suckers out of the gumball machine on the porch. Perhaps he can knit.......Thank heaveans for Bully sticks to chew on.

Expertise

(Flower shot from Neighbors yard....Zach aren't you proud of me? )

I am finishing the match to the fingerless that was pinching pockets. Tonight. That will make 4 fingerless gifts for Christmas so far. I am also working on a baby blanket but I am running into possible issues. I am sensing that nagging wrist pain when I make the blanket. Geez, I may be knitting with sock yarn the rest of my life! I am making little strips to knit together for the blanket. I'm knitting with ACRYLIC b/c I know that babies burp and when they do it is messy.

Which brings me to a bias of mine. I don't knit soakers. Why on earth would I knit something that those loose little stools will leak out on? Even the best rubber pants won't stop it. I don't consider myself an expert in many things, but baby poop and burps are my area of .

Any questions?Posted byKathyat7:32 PM

My new project.....I'm inspired

Lynette at 3 Bags Full found just the right thing to inspire me. I am going to make this pretty drapey wrap. I can't knit another thing with 1s or 3s or I think I'll loose it. The pattern is LOLA from the Book Knitovation. It is really really difficult. That is why it is made up of a few rectangles....Seriously I can knit this. I already had the Great Ad. yarn in my stash.

Was it the knit find or the new jeans that actually fit me or the 79 degree sunny day here in Chicago that has me happy today?

I've been meaning to bring this up. What is it with dry cupcakes and cakes lately? I paid 75 cents for a darling cupcake at a chic little Chicago bakery. I took it home and saved it for after dinner. I couldn't wait to enjoy it. It was so dry and I was so disappointed. The last few tries at bakery cupcakes have been so disappointing. Do you buy a cake that is moist and wonderful? Where do you buy it from? Or do I, gasp, have to make it myself.....

Does this look like a summer jacket to you?

I know I said that I could knit that jacket. Truth is, I could. Reality is, there was no more yarn available in my colorway that I had purchased over 2 years ago. So I would have had to buy 3 new skeins at 37.00 a skein. You know I am far too frugal to do this . But I may budget for it, and make that darling jacket anyhow later.

Thankfully I had this WIck from knit one crochet too from a year or so back. The odd thing is, or maybe not, that it is very similar to the colorway of the Great Ad yarn for the jacket. Of course, it is an entirely different yarn but clearly my eyes are happy with greens and purples and pinks. This image is washed out from the full sun midday on the porch. The colors are really deeper and charming. I get to knit them on size 5 needles. It is so nice to SEE what I am doing. So far no arm/hand issues.

I have to give some updates here that are non knitting related.

The Hoover Flair vacuum for the wood and kitchen floors is just fine. Picks up little tumblehairs of Cricket's well . The likelihood that I will actually vacuum has risen exponentially since the purchase. All in all I am giving it a thumbs up.

I'm planting dahlia bulbs and tirgre something or other bulbs right now. I guess I'm into delaying the show until late summer and fall. My Columbine are about to flower. I have grown them from the seeds from my sister's plants. It has taken about 4 years to get them thick and lush and hearty. You are sure to see them in a blogpost soon.

Someone of you told me to plant dill to attract butterflies. Well, I planted seeds today. I broadcast them over a little hill we have in the garden. Long before we had Cricket, we knew of a Chicago Story that claimed that a Barnum Circus elephant died at a Chicago show one winter. The claim they brought the body to the lakefront and covered it with soil because it was too cold to bury the elephant in the frozen ground. So there is a bit of a big hill on the lakefront and some call it Cricket hill.
Well, we have a hill in the garden and guess who loves to stand there and overlook his yard? Yup. So we call it our own Cricket hill.

Off to knit on the porch and enjoy this gorgeous weather. 79 at 5 pm in Chicago. :)

Obedience class blues

You know every time I think Cricket and I are doing well with training, we go to class and well, we have a long way to go.
I think you can't expect too much after just 3 classes. (don't make excuses for your dog, our old trainer Gee would say!)
I think I had acid indigestion, no I know I had it, last night on the car ride home. The positives are: he got better as class went on instead of worse this time.

Knit to relax, knit to relax, knit to relax

Just when Cricket thought a tennis ball couldnt be more fun, someone shows up at the dog park with an orange tennis ball.....that squeeks. He was actually getting possesive over it and it wasn't even his.

KNit to relax, knit to relax, knit to relax

I'm off for a stretch from work. I've had a busy start to my time off; hoping to find some more knit time soon!

Are you knitting to relax????

May 8, Felted wool hat and fingerless gloves

?

Brrrr. It is cold on this Mothers Day weekend. Great inspiration for me to knit. Les and Karen from the Knit Whiz visited with me and I somehow walked out of the shop with a sale yarn from Wool in the Woods that will make incredible fingerless gloves for another Christmas gift and some sock yarn. Pictures soon. I was trying to use up some stash yarn, but as Karen says, sometimes you need new yarn to be inspired about a new project. My gift to myself and the socks will be for Al.

My friend Diane has no stash yarn, She buys the yarn she needs, and then knits with it before she buys any other yarn. She's a smart cookie. I do lose interest in stash yarns over time. Do you?

Karen asked me if I'd see the TInker Toy yarn swift . It is pretty clever. You can find it at Folkcatart.com blog. I am much to clumsy to use a swift. I leave it to the professionals. This little house has no room for one either. I envision yarn, cats and a myriad of other things flying through the air if I used one at home.

I haven't been alone in the house much in the last few months. Yesterday, however, I realized I was home alone. I sung my heart out to Rogers and Hammerstien music. I think Cricket was frightened. I cannot believe how good it felt to sing with no one to bother. What do you do when you are home alone?????

Happy Mothers day weekend knitting. Wishing some yarn comes to you, one way or another!

A mother's day gift

Makes me smile!

I don't want to jinx it, but I am on the second sock for Al's new pair. I'm using Dazzle and it is so pretty. Expensive, yes, but I know she'll use them and enjoy them. It is a heavier weight and so I cast on 40 sts. What a joy to see my stitches. I'm a much better knitter at 4-5 stitches per inch that 7-8.

Looks like most of the country is in rain and snow. I say we all need some sunshine. I wish I was not so weather driven. It is good to get out and walk no matter.

Prarie Arts and Fibers up in the country in northern illinois, is closing. I loved the store but have to admit, it was too far for me to go back to from my home. Everything is 25% off starting next monday if that is your neck of the woods.

I am hoping my posts will get more interesting again. I feel like I need to write through it. I love a funny post, but I am starved for good ideas lately!

Red Twizzle Socks for AL

The other images I took are so bright they may injure someone. The true color of the socks is more berry and more dazzle.
Al will have them for many cold days 9 months out of our Chicago weather year.
I love this silk and merino yarn from Mountain Colors .

I accidentally bought 2 % milk this week . When I tasted it, it was so good compared to skim! What a treat. Cheap thrills continue here at Irisheyes!

Happy Sunday

Thought you might enjoy the little robin's egg. I am seeing them as I walk Cricket these days. Boring little robins come from spectacular blue eggs. I am still on cheap thrills I guess.

I am giving some yarn a last chance. I have had it in my stash for too long. I think I bought it at a Stitches event long ago. It wasn't a brand name. The colorway is browns and greens. I think I was expecting more when it knit up. I'm undecided. It will make a pair of socks. I'll let you know if I pursue these socks. Otherwise the yarn and I will part. And that's that.

May all your troubles be little ones today.

Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor's Yarn

My neighbor Abby wants to start to knit socks. She brought over her yarn to show to me. It is gorgeous. I couldn't write the name of the label down while she was here. I promptly forgot it. Now my last chance yarn is even less appealing. I've told it if it lets me turn the heel nicely tonight, I'll keep at it. But there is new sock yarn hunting going on here at our house.

I loved this particular flower when Cricket and I walked by it. I saw it the other day. I brought the camera all the way back to the flower today to show it to you. Isn't it neat? So very pale and yet stunning. I think a fairy must live in there when the leaves curl together...

Only funny because it wasn't my dog!

Cricket and I were out walking when we caught this guy in action. He was clearly enjoying his electric fenced yard with easy access to full garbage cans. He must have taken 5 things out and careful put them on his lawn before devouring them paper and all.

As for knitting, I put the awful sock yarn aside. When I showed it to my friends Lesley and Karen this is what happened. Karen so gently examined it and tried to fix it where I'd dropped a stitich. I was having a terrible time with a ridges at the needle joins. She gave me a tip to snug up the yarn for a stitch or two after I go to the new needle.

Les on the other hand looked at the yarn on the needles. I had knit to the cuff and was ready to start the heel flap. "WHAT are you knitting with? HAIR?" She was right. The lousy yarn was like knitting a sock with hair. Worse than lace weight.

Enter Plymouth Yarns Sockin'Sox Color 6. It was the brand I fell for when my neighbor came over last weekend. For 12.02 with tax I have a pretty yarn that knits up nicely with a little give to it! Les says it will stripe. I don't think so. No matter, I'm ribbing down to the heel flap anyhow. When I knit straight for the gusset etc, I'll find out if it would have striped.

Two other things I wanted to share. I made my friend Lisa's Beet Salad for Fireman and I last night. It was really good. I had never baked beets and used them in anything. It is a basic salad of spinach, some arugula, goat cheese, candied pecans, beets cubed up, and an oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. Very good indeed.

Another new thing I did today: I crawled out on our roof and cleaned the gutter spout. It was so hot out there. Fireman is having back surgery on Monday. It kills him to have me do his usual chores, but I'm happy to help. Okay , I was a little panicky out there, but I did it!
He was injured in February. I don't like to dwell on troubles, on this blog. The great news is that he is finally a few days from the surgery that will get him back on his feet, and on the roof, and on his bike and back to work. If you have a spare prayer, I'd love you for it.

He has been so bored being inactive. My father keeps saying he has some great puzzles for him. Fireman warns me there will be no PUZZLES and no mashed up food for him yet! I have offered to teach him to knit. It just isn't his thing I guess. He has showed absolutely no interest whatsoever......

I promise a sock picture when it is worthy. Unsure who I am making these for. A gift I think !

Wishing you a safe trip to the roof if you have to go up there and a peaceful bit of time to knit today.

Wishing you safe roof time and

The subject is Chocolate knitting

Stay with me here. These are Chocolate covered salted caramels. Within the last year we discovered these gems. Fireman and I love them. They are for very special occasions. This little pack was for his birthday a few weeks ago. They come in light and dark chocolate.

I have to send you over now to Bianca's site : lansingerland.blogspot.com to show you her chocolate socks.
She created this pattern and the socks are beautiful. The are published with the pattern in Yarnforward Issue 26 as well.

RIght now my socks are very simple. I let the yarn color do the work. It soothes me not to have to think very hard right now.
Someday I want to knit these socks on Bianca's site. I admire you all who knit complex socks and create the patterns.

wishing you chocolate or caramels or knitting time this weekend.

The weekend can't go fast enough. Fireman's surgery is monday. :) Thank you for the well wished a prayers.

Almost ready to show some knitting

But not yet....sorry. I am hoping to sit and knit tonight because I want to finish the pair of socks I am working on.
I decided to show them to my sister. She said she loved the colors, so I told her I had her in mind for them. She was genuinely happy.

Next up is the self-striping blue and brown Opal skein.

Here our little green garden. This patch has been a hard working vegetable garden in the past. It moved on to a stunning wildflower patch. Now it is just hostas and ferns with a few flower pots. Mostly maintenance free. With Fireman
recovering and Cricket training and a busy busy few weeks, I am glad for the easy garden. :)

What are you glad for that is easy on you?

My sister's socks finished

Yeah. I completed something. During this pair I learned that I can pick up dropped purl stitches and survive on my own .

I learned that you don't always know who you are knitting for when you cast on.....

I picked up an Interweave issue from Spring '10. I read with interest the Nancy Bush interview about her love of socks.
She is so historic about it. It is a neat slant.

I was going to read the article on demystifying the kitchener stitch, but I thumbed through the several page article and thought......if they need this many pages...I think I'll skip it.

I love a good 3 needle toe bind off.

NOW, to watch the Hawks and start on my new Opal socks in blue and brown self striping pattern. I love yarn that entertains me.

Are you rooting for the Hawks out of sympathy for Chicago teams pathetic history? I'm just happy they are keeping Fireman entertained as he recoups. He is getting better everyday .....hooray.

Ring around the nosey

I don't have a knitting photo for you yet. My New Opal Sock colorway in brown and blues is a big hit with me. I love the way it is knitting up. Tonight during the Hawks game, I'll be working on the gusset of the first sock.

Have you heard of FreeCycle? I'm probably the last to know, but just in case I'll share it with you. It is a site that you can list something you don't care to have and don't want to try selling, for someone to come and take. You leave it on your doorstep and the next thing you know it is gone.

There was a FreeCycle event right near Al's place last weekend. She picked up a copy of FolkSocks. For free. :) I think I was happier when she told me that find, than if she'd told me she found anything else.

Fireman is slowly better, but we need more patience here. Some restrictions will be lifted in just 6 more days. Whose counting?

Today's thereapy for him is the movie Breaking Away. He loves that flick. No sooner had he started it, than he was laughing.
Humor is a great medicine .

and finally, Cricket went after a full grown rabbit in our yard last night, and killed it swiftly. He did not listen to my leave it, and come commands at all. He seemed quite proud when he finally dropped it and sat next to it. The irony: he killed it right in front of my St. Francis of Assissi statue........what do you make of that?

A sock amid the chaos

It has been a bit chaotic here, but I have managed to knit another sock. I hope to start the match tonight. I am using Opal Superwash in the Color Forbe 2715. This yarn is very easy to knit with because it has some stretch from the 25% poly.

I have considered trying to get to the same point in the yarn to start the second sock, but have decided they are just as cute when not matched. I hate to waste the yarn that would be involved in matching.

I feel like there hasn't been too much in my control lately, so it is good to make my own choice in this simple matter. Even the tiniest amount of control helps!

Have a great Thursday.
